Why we basically try to kill our bathroom heaters before you buy them
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, direct splashes of water, and temperatures that swing from freezing to sauna-level in minutes. We build our infrared heaters to an IP66 standard. But look, a rating on a spec sheet is just a piece of paper. It doesn’t actually stop a heater from dying in the real world. That’s why we do something a bit more aggressive.
The “Damp-Heat” Torture Test
Water vapor is sneaky. It finds the tiniest gaps you can’t even see. Once that moisture hits the internal wiring or the lamp’s quartz envelope, things start to rust and oxidize. Instead of waiting for a customer to call us and complain, we force these failures to happen in our lab. We put the units through “damp-heat aging”—which is basically cycling them through brutal heat and humidity over and over. We’re looking for something we call “creepage.” It’s what happens when moisture builds up on a circuit board and creates a bridge for electricity to travel where it shouldn’t. One tiny bridge, and you’ve got a short circuit or a burnt-out filament. If a seal fails during this test, we scrap the design and start over.
The IP66 Balancing Act
IP66 means the unit is dust-tight and can take a powerful jet of water right to the face. We use heavy-duty silicone gaskets and sealed cable entries to make that happen. But here’s the catch: the tighter you seal a box, the harder it is for the unit to breathe. If we aren’t careful, the heater just cooks its own internals. It’s a bit of a tug-of-war between keeping the water out and letting the heat escape. We spend a lot of time dialing in the heat sinks so the capacitors don’t fry themselves while they’re keeping you warm.
What this actually means for you
Nobody wants a callback from a grumpy client because a heater quit working after one winter. By pushing these units to their breaking point in the lab, we make sure the materials won’t warp or crack when things get stressful. You get a heater that just works. Even when the environment is doing everything it can to eat it alive.
